Velari Eggbutt Single Jointed Cherry Roller Sweet Iron
The Velari eggbutt with cherry roller mouthpiece combines the benefits of sweet iron, a single-jointed mouthpiece and loose rollers in one carefully considered design. The bit sits comfortably in the horse's mouth and offers a direct, attentive connection — without unnecessary complexity.
The mouthpiece is crafted from sweet iron, which oxidises naturally during use. This natural process encourages salivation and invites the horse to remain soft and relaxed in the mouth, contributing to a more supple contact and a calmer, more confident way of going.
The cherry roller features loose rollers that discourage the horse from taking hold of the bit. At the same time, the rollers increase tongue activity, further stimulating saliva production and helping the jaw to relax. This makes the bit particularly well suited to horses that are strong in the hand, tend to grab the bit, or struggle to maintain focus.
The single-jointed mouthpiece provides direct, clear communication between horse and rider. When the rider takes up the rein, the joint forms a V-shape that distributes pressure across the bars while relieving the tongue at the centre. This mouthpiece suits horses with a higher palate particularly well. Many horses appreciate the straightforward, uncomplicated feel of a single joint — especially those that prefer a defined point of action and a consistent contact.
With an eggbutt bit, the mouthpiece remains more stable in the horse’s mouth, reducing excessive lateral movement and minimizing the risk of pinching at the corners of the mouth. This stability benefits horses that prefer a quieter bit and helps them maintain a more confident and consistent contact. The fixed cheeks provide clear, reliable rein aids and contribute to a gentle yet stable connection between horse and rider during work.

Care & use
After each ride, rinse the bit with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Over time, sweet iron develops a light patina — a natural oxidation process that improves taste and acceptance. Store in a dry place and check regularly for smooth, even wear. Make sure the bit is positioned correctly: the star must be on the left side and the Velari logo on the right.
