Velari Full Cheek Bit Single Jointed Cherry Roller Sweet Iron

The Velari full cheek bit with cherry roller mouthpiece combines the benefits of sweet iron, a single-jointed mouthpiece and loose rollers in one thoughtfully designed bit. It sits comfortably in the horse's mouth and provides a direct, responsive connection — without unnecessary complexity.

The mouthpiece is made from sweet iron, which oxidises naturally with use. This natural process encourages salivation and invites the horse to remain soft and relaxed in the mouth, contributing to a more supple contact and a calmer, more confident way of going.

The cherry roller features loose rollers that discourage the horse from fixing or grabbing the bit. At the same time, the rollers increase tongue activity, further stimulate salivation and help relax the jaw. This makes the bit particularly well-suited to horses that are strong in the mouth, tend to clamp down on the bit, or struggle to focus.

The single-jointed mouthpiece provides direct, clear communication between rider and horse. When the rider takes up the contact, the joint creates a gentle V-shape that distributes pressure across the bars and relieves the tongue at its centre. This mouthpiece suits horses with a higher palate well. Many horses appreciate the clear, uncomplicated feel of a single joint — especially those that prefer a defined point of action and a stable, consistent contact.

The eggbutt cheeks provide clear lateral support, allowing the horse to understand the rider's aids with calm and clarity. It is an excellent choice for young or inexperienced horses, as the fixed cheeks offer gentle, reliable guidance. The fixed sides stabilise the mouthpiece, encourage soft chewing activity and promote a confident acceptance of the contact. This stability supports precise rein aids and a smooth, consistent connection throughout the ride.

Care & Use

Rinse the bit with warm water after every ride and dry it with a soft cloth. Over time, sweet iron develops a light patina — a natural oxidation process that improves flavour and acceptance. Store in a dry place and check regularly for even wear. Ensure the bit is fitted correctly: the star should be on the left side and the Velari logo on the right.
