Velari Full Cheek Flex with Tongue Port Hard
The Velari Full Cheek Flex Hard with Tongue Port is a thoughtfully considered choice for horses that need clarity, stability, and gentle direction. Combining firm, purposeful contact with structural support and pressure-relief design, this bit is particularly well-suited to younger horses in early training and to riders who value precision and consistency in their connection. The full cheek ring is a cornerstone of this bit's character. Its fixed cheeks work in harmony with the mouthpiece to deliver clear, calm lateral guidance, helping horses understand directional aids without confusion or anxiety. For young or inexperienced horses still learning to accept the contact, this steadiness is genuinely reassuring — the cheeks prevent the mouthpiece from shifting or rotating in the mouth, encouraging soft, relaxed chewing and a confident willingness to engage with the rein. The result is a smooth, consistent connection that supports the rider's aids from start to finish. Crafted from Velari's Flex Hard synthetic compound, this bit brings a firmer quality of contact to horses that benefit from a more defined feel in the hand. Where softer options may leave some horses inclined to lean or lose focus, the Flex Hard provides a clearer signal without resorting to metal. The material is non-toxic, smooth to the touch, and entirely safe in the mouth, yet offers the kind of purposeful presence that encourages self-carriage and attentiveness. It strikes a careful balance — firm in character, but never cold, harsh, or unforgiving.
The tongue port mouthpiece adds a further layer of refinement to this combination. By creating additional space over the tongue, it shifts the primary pressure point toward the bars, making it an excellent choice for horses that are sensitive across the centre of the tongue or that show discomfort by pushing the tongue out or over the bit. The port also contributes to the overall stability of the mouthpiece, helping it hold its shape under pressure and maintaining an even, predictable contact. Horses that tend to become heavy or lean through softer bits often respond well to this design, finding both comfort and clarity within the same well-structured mouthpiece.
Ideal for:
- Young or green horses learning to accept and understand the rein contact
- Horses that lean or become heavy in softer, more pliable bits
- Horses sensitive to tongue pressure or inclined to put their tongue over the bit
- Horses that benefit from a firm, clear connection without the feel of metal
- Riders working through the early stages of training who need reliable lateral guidance
- Riders of any level seeking consistent, precise communication and a steady contact
